| Green Tea Helps Arthritis
This major component of Green Tea known as catechins may benefit
arthritis patients by reducing the degradation of cartilage, according
to an in vitro study conducted at the University of Sheffield Medical
School.
Research published in the March issue of the Journal of Nutrition was
based on the premise that the catechins - polyphenol compounds found
in green tea reduce arthritis inflammation.
Researchers studied bovine and human cartilage samples, which were
cultured with and without reagents known to accelerate cartilage
breakdown, and then Green Tea catechins were added to the mix.
Catechins also known for their valuable antioxidant properties,
effectively prevented collagen breakdown, an no toxic effects were
noted.
Researchers concluded that green tea catechins may be protective to
cartilage. In addition, they stated that the consumption of green tea
may prevent arthritis damage and benefit the arthritis patient by
reducing inflammation and slowing cartilage breakdown.

| COLON CANCER PREVENTION WITH
FOLIC ACI..... |
| Recent Studies Have Shown Significant Benefits
of Folic Acid in the Prevention of Colon Cancer
The B vitamin Folic Acid is a very important nutrient in
colon cancer risk reduction. Folic Acid is important for the
synthesis and repair of DNA. A lack of Folic Acid may cause
abnormalities in DNA repair that can lead to the development
of malignant cells. Data suggests that people with the
highest intake of Folic Acid have a 40% reduction in the
risk of colon cancer. In the “Harvard Nurses Health Study,”
there was a 75% reduction in the rate of colon cancer in
women who took a multi-vitamin containing Folic Acid. Recent
evidence also indicates that Folic Acid may reduce the
occurrence of colon polyps, which are often precursors to
colon cancer. The dosage of Folic Acid that will give you
the optimal benefit should be 1 mg.
(equivalent: 1,000 mcg.) per day or higher. This is much
higher than the average diet will provide and what is in
most multi-vitamins, thus individual Folic Acid supplements
are strongly recommended.
MARCH IS COLON CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.
